Dermabrasion

This process is used to refinish or improve the look of facial skin after accidents, injuries or previous surgeries or just to smooth out fine facial wrinkles around the mouth, and other places. Dermabrasion can also be used to remove pre-cancerous growths known as keratoses.

The Procedure
This procedure can be performed on a specific area of the skin or on the entire face, and can be coupled with other procedures such as facelifts. In dermabrasion the surgeon will scrape away the top layers of skin using an electric instrument with a rough wired brush or diamond-impregnated burr.

Before and After
Right after your surgery your face will be red and swollen, eating and talking may be difficult. After several weeks the swelling and redness will subside and you will be able to resume normal activity at a gradual pace. Some complexions and skin types however may not be suited for this procedure and this should be discussed with Dr. Work before having the procedure.
